An unparalleled world beneath our feet

We experience the world in a horizontal way and mostly in the visible layer. However, there is an unparalleled world beneath our feet with strange and beautiful denizens. This garden sets out to highlight and display the characters of the underworld specific to the Wissahickon Formation bedrock region.

As the visitors descend into the invisible layer of the earth they eventually begin to walk on Wissahickon schist, the naturally occurring bedrock from this region. The stairs also mimic the color and texture of the local soil profile.
